Von Miller Passes Simon Fletcher To Become Broncos’ All-time Leader In Sacks, Megan Denise Wished Him Luck
Finally, Von Miller has surpassed Simon Fletcher on the all-time list of career sack with No. 98. The legend fired off the line of scrimmage on third down after he faked an outside pass rush left, bolted inside right and found a clear lane to the quarterback through the middle. Miller’s third quarter smash of Baker Mayfield gave real reason for celebration so forget about the eighth-year edge rusher for sprinting down the field with one finger raised in the air.
Simon Fletcher congratulated Miller after he surpassed the mark set by set by Broncos’ Ring of Fame linebacker (1985-95; 97.5). Fletcher hailed Miller for the amazing achievement with a message on the stadium’s video board prior to the fourth quarter.
The sack is now tied with former Colorado State and Steelers’ linebacker Joey Porter in No. 33 on the NFL’s all-time list. Miller, the Broncos’ No. 2 overall draft pick in 2011, entered Week 15 with the most sacks of any player since joining the league. His sacks in nine consecutive games this season extended his career high for such a streak. Mayfield is the 46th different NFL quarterback Miller has brought down.
During the week, Miller admitted to reporters that the sack record weighed on his psyche. He got called for three neutral zone infractions in the first half at the 49ers and said, “I’m coming into that game like, ‘Man, all I need is two sacks.’ So at the beginning of the game, I’m aggressive all the way. I’m trying to get these sacks out the way and that’s my fault. It was selfish of me to try to do that.”
Miller still finished the game with one sack to inch closer to the record.
On Saturday, Broncos took a 13-10 lead late into the third quarter when Brandon McManus knocked in a 42-yard field goal. The Browns fell behind the chains with a holding penalty and faced third-and-1 after a touchback on the ensuing kickoff.
Despite the high on Von Miller, he’s still far behind Bruce Smith’s NFL record of 200. However, at the end of the day, it’s Ninety-eight down. Just 102 to go.
